With a generous grant from the Tappan Zee Bridge Community Benefits Fund, the Town of Orangetown plans to embark on a study of bike use throughout town. Our focus is on enhancing the cycling experience for diverse users of Orangetown roads and paths. Meeting the needs of cyclists, both long- and short-range, is beneficial to Orangetown families and businesses. Bicycle infrastructure increases health, property values, tourism, local business opportunity and economic development while decreasing air pollution and automobile traffic. At the same time, we must be mindful of any negative impacts of the larger groups of cyclists attracted to Orangetown and any foreseeable conflicts between cyclists, motorists and pedestrians.
The Town has just released a Request for Proposals from consultants to study various aspects of biking in Orangetown. Proposals are due back May 19th.
