Town of Orangetown: Bicycle Unit

The Orangetown Police Department Bicycle Unit was established in 1995 and is used mainly for parade duty and street functions such as fairs and carnivals. Because of the hilly terrain of much of Orangetown it is not used in normal patrol nor in inclement weather.

All Officers assigned to the Bicycle patrol shall receive a minimum of 16 hours training orientation on the following subjects prior to going on Bicycle Patrol:

a. Bicycle nomenclature
b. Physical fitness
c. Equipment
d. Uniforms
e. Bicycle maintenance
f. Riding protocol
g. Off road riding techniques
h. Accident prevention
i. Tactics
j. Safety
