Orangetown Building, Zoning and Planning Administration and Enforcement

This department is responsible for issuing building permits, inspecting

Land use center headed by John Nolon. Has a great deal of land use law
information specific to New York. The site also includes research reports
on specific issues that will come up in discussions of our comprehensive
plan update. |

|
One of Orangetown's partners in the Route 303 Sustainable Development
Study. Deals with regional transportation planning issues. |

initiatives in economic development and environmental protection take into

those that are looking for innovative ways to protect open space. Includes
a report on the economic benefits of preserving open space. |

Web site focusing on protecting the Hudson River and the lands along
the 315-miles between Albany and Manhattan. |
| Hudson Valley Greenway |
The Hudson River Valley Greenway is a state sponsored program created
to facilitate the development of a voluntary regional strategy for preserving
scenic, natural, historic, cultural and recreational resources while encouraging
compatible economic development. |
| Sierra Club |
Nationwide environmental advocacy group. Sprawl is one of their core
issues. The site has some detailed information that evaluates the current
state of affairs in the United States and solutions to improve planning. |
| Rails to Trails Conservancy |
A Nationwide organization that supports and promotes converting abandoned
railroad right of way into linear parks and trails. Orangetown's Joseph
Clarke Rail Trail is one example. |
